Welcome to the Bork Bark pre-E3 livestream podcast thingy. All throughout the next couple of days check in at borkbark.net to see reactions to the latest announcements and daily round-ups.
Just so we don’t miss anything we’re going to hit each presentation in the order they happen then talk about some of the games we might see on the floor but not necessarily on stage for any reason or another. This means we’re starting with EA, but first let’s talk about some of the pre-E3 announcements starting with the Pokémon Sword and Shield Direct that happened on the 5th.
Pokémon Sword and Shield got a release date: it’s November 15th. On top of that there’s going to be a new element to Pokémon battles: Dynamax. Dynamax effectively beefs up your Pokémon for three turns once per battle. However it doesn’t stop there, Sword and Shield will also get a 4 player co-op raid against strong dynamax Pokémon in the wild. However that wasn’t the only Pokémon news. Pokémon Home was announced last week enabling cloud based trading and Pokémon management that interacts with the 3DS titles to all the way up Pokémon Go and Sword/Shield.
Sony is not going to be at E3 this year, especially with them focusing on their State of Play streams alongside gearing up for next year’s PS5 launch but we could see some information regarding new games coming out later this month when PlayStation is expected to hold their next livestream. Also since Sony is skipping E3 we got Death Stranding news a week early. The game now has a release date of November 8th.
And with that, on to EA. EA Play opens E3 weekend June 8th and the 9th with various streams happening throughout on the 8th.
-EA should drop some Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order info plus maybe another Star Wars title, but the way things are going, probably not.
-Need For Speed is going to be there
-Madden gameplay would be nice but we’ll probably just get a quick trailer.
-Won’t happen but a new Medal of Honor would be amazing, especially with CoD’s new [potentially] edgier game
-We could be getting a Plants vs Zombie’s Garden Warfare 3
Next up is Microsoft’s presentation on the 9th which starts at 1pm local/pacific time. This presentation is supposed to be the longest in the company’s history at E3, with expectations of it lasting 2 hours.
-Fable IV spotted on Mixer (both owned by Microsoft)
-Microsoft releasing a bit more regarding the Age of Empires remakes or Age of Empires 4 (which Relic Games is doing so I’m hyped) along with any info on Halo: Master Chief Collection for PC would be great.
-Halo: Infinite will most likely not have that much screen time because I’d be shocked if it released before 2020 and wasn’t a launch title for the next gen Xbox (which is likely to be touched on at E3).
-Also Microsoft might expand on the whole innovation bit that they had last year regarding AI and Project xCloud (their game streaming service which they partnered with Sony on) and whatever else they said.
-the new Destroy All Humans may also show up during Microsoft’s press conference
Bethesda closes out the weekend with its press conference at 5:30 on the 9th.
-Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 are not going to be there according to Bethesda but we’ll most likely see DOOM Eternal and Wolfenstien: Youngblood. Maybe something from the team that did Prey. Not expecting much wow from Bethesda this year. Fallout Shelter 2 coming to the West?
To open E3 is the PC Gaming Show at 10am local which is sponsored by the Epic Games Store meaning we’ll probably see a few things that they signed on for as exclusives.
-It’d be fun if the show hit us with something surprising like SWAT 5 or a new Sid Meier’s tycoon game (a sequel to some older series, not a remake). But I’m not expecting much.
-More VR stuff, hopefully a bit more envelop pushing would be a big win.
-Lastly, start the apocalypse Valve, count to three!
Later on the 10th is Ubisoft with their conference at 1pm.
-Ubisoft has 3 big unannounced games, one that has been rumored/leaked is a roller derby game (skates on a track, can delete each other) but not sure if that’s included in the 3. Another rumored game is the next Assassin’s Creed featuring Vikings but it could miss the show if it’s a 2020 game. Third rumored game is a new Watch Dogs set in London.
-People want Splinter Cell (me too) but I still really want Rainbow Six: Patriots (won’t happen because it would take attention off of Siege, the game that came out of the Patriots project)
-Beyond Good & Evil 2 will most likely not be there due to their livestream this week
-Plus we’ve got Ghost Recon: Breakpoint to hopefully see a bit more of though they did hit quite a bit in the reveal stream a few weeks back
Square Enix closes out day one with their conference at 6pm on the 10th.
-Final Fantasy VII’s remake is most likely getting a big showing since they pulled Cyberconnect2 and other third party devs off the project plus it’s being released episodically.
-Square also has the Avengers game they teased last year, Square accidentally leaked the game will have 4 player co-op and a character customization
-Nier might get a sequel announcement and/or a Switch port
Day two starts early with Nintendo E3 Direct at 9am. This year I’ve got a much larger stake in it since I bought a Switch two months ago plus they look absolutely stacked in their lineup.
-Need to see more of Astral Chain, since that’s why I bought a Switch.
-Also would be interesting to see a new Mario Kart (since it’s been a while since the last new release).
-There will probably be a game that I’m not sure how it running well on the Switch like DOOM and Wolfenstein, which could be Nier: Automata since companies like to double dip big announcements.
-We’ve also got Luigi’s Mansion 3, Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, and Animal Crossing 2019
-Lastly I’d be shocked if no new Switch console (either the cheaper 3DS replacement one or the beefier version) is announced since NVidia said they expect an increase in Tegra X1 sales, which the Switch is based on, even if Nintendo said it was going to be software only this year.
As for the rest of the field, Bandai Namco has SAO: Alicization Lycoris and maybe we’ll get to see Fuga of the Battlefield over here in the west since it was highlighted in Microsoft ID@Xbox program at an expo in Tokyo a few days ago. Kill la Kill: IF might show up at the Xbox conference or the Nintendo one but I also wouldn’t count on it having that big of a presence for a niche game, does come out on July 26th though. Call of Duty Modern Warfare is going to be at the E3 Coliseum since it has an exclusivity contract with Sony and it’s the first time in a while I’ve been interested in a new CoD. Not only will we get more details regarding its campaign but we could see details on its multiplayer with cross-platform play, which several games are getting this year, and maybe even a Modern Warfare 2 remaster. Finally to round things off on my list is the remaster of the 2009 Ghostbusters game. I thought it was pretty good back on the PS3.
