EA Play 2019

 EA Play 2019 Review

EA focused this year on providing more details to their bigger franchises rather than quantity of announcements (though part of that might be because some are going to show up tomorrow at Microsoft's presser). As such I've compiled what I thought was the most important details from each bit of the stream and linked the main trailers from the live stream.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Respawn delivers on its iconic freeform gameplay. The combat looks like you can tackle it via different play styles. The mechanics themselves look weighted but also flexible. The devs noted enemy AI interact with each other and there actions aren’t entirely locked in combat.

Season 2 starts July 2nd. Some new skins and guns. Also we saw the new defense/support hero: Wattson. Well I didn’t because I was watching it in the background as I had to do other stuff. There was also a reveal of a revamped battlepass to more align with Fortnite’s pass.

Detailed a new map set in Greece focused on infantry. New massive North Africa map with all the vehicles. The new maps teased for August include an infantry map set in Southern France and a fishing village set in either Norway or Denmark. The level cap is being raised to 500 plus and private servers are back. Metro is back redesigned as the German underground set to release in October. Lastly we got a preview of Chapter 5: The Pacific. The Iwo Jima map was detailed and the concept designs look like their going to focus on big battles. Two other pacific maps are also going to drop at chapter 5’s launch.

Volta game mode = street soccer, advertised maps were a London cage, Amsterdam underpass, Tokyo rooftop.
New AI to better spread out AI, improved near goal shooting, new free kick and penalty kick systems.

X-factor abilities were the biggest focus and how they play into the game. Superstar abilities are passive while zone abilities are triggered. Opposing sides of the ball have goals to cancel zone abilities. QB1 mode and MUT were quickly mentioned but nothing new was really detailed.

Island Living expansion revealed that there’s more to do in the water, mermaids are real, and water homes alongside a whole new culture and environment for you Sims to explore. Pride content and a fashion stuff pack were announced and a magic based game pack was teased.

Grade: C+

Nothing really new was shown off during the live stream besides gameplay from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order but it did a decent job at detailing the future content coming from EA. Was hoping for a bit more, even if was smaller announcements during the transitional down time between segments.
